Look at this yummy fabric.

This is a project for Timeless Treasures using a new line of Tonga Batiks. It is called Blueberry Pie. Even the name is yummy.

Timeline of events;

Last Wednesday my design was approved. (check)

Fabric arrived on Monday. Print out first draft of instructions. (check)

Tuesday the sewing begins. (check)

Wednesday complete sewing the top. (in progress)

Thursday quilt and bind quilt.

Friday mail to Timeless Treasurers for photograph.

These are Tonga Treats.

I have never used these before but I love them.

I have my strata all sewn.
Here is part of it.

Having the strips precut was a big time saver. I didn’t have to press the fabric and straighten it and then cut. I am using two each of 15 different fabrics so that is a big time saver.

Today I must get the rest of the top complete.
So I have to stop typing and get back to sewing.

Oh and did I mention that they will be posting this on their website as one of their free patterns? It should be ready sometime in January. I’ll keep you posted.

How is your week going? Are you sewing, shopping or baking?

Elisa

Procrastinating!!! Merry Christmas. I can’t wait to see this in the finished project. Think the fabrics are just as you described – yummy!!!

Ha, ha, ha, right Rebecca. Merry Christmas to you too :-)
Top is done (check!). Tomorrow the quilting.

Can hardly wait to see the finished product. I’ve always been amazed at all you manage to accomplish in such short periods of time. Those batiks are, as you said, yummy. Wish I could touch them.

The quilt is complete except I realized last night that I need to add a sleeve. I will finish that and get in the mail today. I do (sometimes) get a lot done but then again this is my day job LOL so I sort of have to. It is the extra stuff that is mine that never makes it to completion.

The treats were a treat to work with :-) I won’t post a photo yet, I let the fabric company do that first since it is made for them, but it will be soon!

You asked what I am doing this week????? I got a new red Escape (Ford miniSUV) for Christmas, so transporting ALL the stuff you carry around in your car “just in case” from the living room to the kitchen table to the new car–only after cleaning out the old cough drops and peppermints, antique lipsticks, hard bubble gum (I have grandkids) unopened wet ones that are dry anyway, three emery boards, gum wrappers, and emergency bag of almonds. Pocked the loose change we found, and now to decide if I really need three hand cleaners, etc. I made a quilt top last week and have spent some time planning the next quilt, but mostly getting ready for Christmas day dinner. Baked cookies, shopped for groceries, wrote thank you notes, and paid some bills. Now, did you really want to know all that? :-) Thanks for your blogs, I check often, and looking forward to the new quilt made with the Tonga Treats plus yardage.

Love it Jane, I want to know how you scored a new car for Christmas :-) It is funny what we tend to collect in our cars and purses. And closets for that matter! It sounds like a busy week. I hope you have a great Christmas and enjoy those grandchildren. They are the best.

How did I score a new car???? My precious husband whose father died at 73, leaving the family a huge debt, wanted to be sure I will always have a dependable car to drive just in case he dies before me (he is 76). Besides, he gets to enjoy it, too. He also got himself a new Ford Ranger (to do his work in….(-;) I would love to have new carpet, paint, etc., but am SO delighted with the new ride. Thanks for asking. I needed to brag on DH.

That was “pocketed”, not pocked…I should have done a spell check….and added a smiley face after “did you really want to know all that” (-:

Question for you, Elisa–when you get back to your blog. I occasionally teach classes at our local quilt shops and they are always interested in new techniques. If I should work up a class on curved piecing, what would you suggest would be a day class starter project? Also, we would certainly use your templates, which would give you some business. I have used them LOTS, and love them. Thanks, Jane

So sorry for the delay Jane, I have been taking a hiatus from the computer for a few days… weeks…
I think the 6″ or 7″ template are the easiest to start with. You can use fat quarters for either of them. Then students can be ambitious and use the 20 fat quarters to make a version of the Circle Dance quilt and then those who want to can use the extra piece of the fat quarters and add the 3.5″ template but either way it works for those who progress quickly and those who are happy to stay with just using the larger size template. Also, they can do 10 fat quarters or 20 or 30 because there is always somebody in class who wants to make the project as a “queen size” quilt :-)
Also, the pattern comes with the template so they only have to purchase one thing (the template) and it gets them comfortable sewing curves without a big investment. I would allow 3 to 4 hours for the class and have them press their fat quarters, then during class show them how to cut the quick and easy way (see videos) during class and then work on the sewing and be sure to show how to press correctly. Have fun!
