The other morning these two guys were grazing on the weeds right outside our bedroom window.

They are probably brothers and look to be about two years old.

They didn’t know that we were there less than 10 feet away and so it was interesting to watch them as they munched. They can eat all of those weeds they want as long as they stay out of my small flower garden.

See his little antlers. They still have velvet on them and he has two points. In some states you might call this a 4-point, but around these parts this would be a 2-point.

Whoops! It looks like we might have gotten spotted.

I would like you to meet a friend of mine.

This is Ellen Lumpkin Brown. Well, she isn’t exactly a new friend, but she might be new to you. We recently had a chance to get better acquainted.

Ellen makes the most amazing dolls. I am not a doll maker and I greatly admire anybody who has that kind of patience.

These dolls are hip and cool and have the latest styles in clothes and hair. Ellen looks around for the perfect yarn that will look good on a dolls head and become realistic looking hair. I was impressed!

In fact I had a dream one night that my baby granddaughter, Addison, had this long, beautiful, braided, dark, yarn hair. The dream is particularly funny if you know that Addison is just a few months old and has about as much hair as a peach and about the same color. Somehow in my sleep I combined the baby with the yarn hair.

This is Ellen and me in Orlando. She is the pretty one on the left.

Oh my, what that Florida humidity did to my hair!

You can check out all of Ellen’s dolls and her book Doll Fashionistas on her website, The Doll Loft.

She is super sweet and I look forward to the next time we can hang out together.

I also did a tiny bit of filming for Quilters TV.

The new stuff that I filmed in Orlando is not up on the Quilter’s TV site yet, but there is an interview that I did with Ellen that sometimes plays on the Quilters Tv site. It is so interesting to watch yourself on film and realize how dorky you talk. All is good though and it was a lot of fun.

Here I am getting ready on the set.

I hope to do more filming soon. Hey camera guy, I’m ready to do more. I’m out here in the boonies but I am ready for more.
Ready when you are. :-)

I finally got the folding project out of the way.

If I start an organizing project and it takes more than one day to complete it, I tend to lose interest.

But once you pull all of the fabric off the shelves, it has to go back on the shelves one way or another.

Another is preferred.

I plugged in my ipod and listened to James Herriot. If you haven’t listened to any of his books on tape you are missing a real treat.

And see how much progress I made.

I even managed to straighten up the cabinet that olds the 1/2 yard cuts.

It was nice to see all of my fabric. Some of it has been piled on that shelf for the last two years. Hiding from me.

It is easy to see that my taste in fabric is mainly hand dyed and batik fabric. I used to hand dye yards and yards of beautiful fabric. Right now I have very few of those pieces left. I do have a bunch of hand dyed fabric that I got at a good price from a company that was going out of business. I also have some Ricky Tims HD fabric that I did not purchase at a good price, but I had to have it.

Now I just need to do something with it.

I have this little habit, whenever my life is in chaos, and I have a “to-do” list a mile long, instead of working on my list, I will organize a cupboard or closet.

Somehow by putting one little section of my life in order, I begin to feel calm.

The rest of the world can go crazy, but I can gaze at my minute organized space and feel at peace with the world.

The space in question.

fabric2.jpg

Any fabric that is larger than a half yard belongs in this place. It is an old grocery store counter, and has big cast iron feet, it weighs a ton, and looks almost like a piece of furniture from the front. The paint is peeling and the entire thing could use a good scrubbing. But not today.

I cover it with a quilt and place my large ironing board on top. It makes a great work space.

fabric1.jpg

Take another look.

fabric3.jpg

And even more mess.

fabric4.jpg

Oh my, it is no wonder I can’t find anything in there.

But I saw this blog on organizing and decided to give it a try.

And so I began.

fabric6.jpg

I was all set to start but I didn’t have the right size ruler. Since I live out in the boonies I couldn’t just jump in the car and run to the store, so I made my own with thick cardboard. It wasn’t long enough so I had to tape two sections together and overlap them. I also taped the sides and edges so that it would slide smoothly out of my fabric roll.

I would place the fabric down and start the process of wrapping it around my 6 1/2″ wide cardboard. I thought that I would have to iron some pieces of fabric, but they all smoothed out easily enough.

fabric8.jpg

See how nice that looks.

And look, I’m making some progress.
