I am so slow lately. I announced the winner of last weeks drawing on my facebook page and now I need to let you know what the prize will be for this week.
This quilt was one of my first designs and one of the most popular. I think it is the fabric that makes the quilt. It is called Color Bridge.

Invite your friends to “Like” my facebook page and you will be entered in the drawing for the pattern. I will have maybe three more weeks of drawings or until the wee one comes.

On another note, I have been wanting to share some of the quilts that were done by some other designers using my SMUP ruler.
This little gem was done by Peggy Welchert in Kentucky.

This little quilt top measures 12″ x 15″. It was made with charm pack (5″ squares) fabric and my SMUP ruler. If you watched the SMUP video part 2 you might have seen a glimpse of this quilt top in the video.

Peggy wrote that as she was working on the project, things got busy and she was not able to put on the borders. I love this little tree and I hope to get it finished.
You can read more about Peggy on her blog. She is a busy gal, taking care of her parents.

Peggy’s comments about the ruler:
“I really enjoyed working with the Square Me Up ruler. It is a unique way to use all of a 5″ square or a 10″ square of fabric to make multiple half square triangles at the same time with minimal marking and no paper to rip off.
I only used 5″ squares of fabric. I did find that a soft pencil, like a chalk pencil, is best to use as directed”

She also made some additional comments on things that she would like to see in the ruler, like adding more lines and we made most of the changes that were suggested to us before producing our final ruler.

I really appreciate the time she took to experiment with the ruler. I will be sharing the comments and project of some other designers who played with the ruler for me during my crunch time right before market.

See you soon!

Look at what I received in the mail today!

We quilters have simple pleasures or maybe I should call them strange desires.

My old ruler was so worn out I could barely see the marks on it anymore. I accidently cut some squares the wrong size because I couldn’t read it properly.

Now, I have an abundance of new rulers to use. I am truly as happy as a kid with a bag of candy.

I like the longer, skinner rulers for some projects and shorter, fat rulers for others.

I like these rulers more than jewelry, chocolate or new shoes.

Thanks Omnigrid, thanks just for making and providing things to make our quilting easier.

I finally got the folding project out of the way.

If I start an organizing project and it takes more than one day to complete it, I tend to lose interest.

But once you pull all of the fabric off the shelves, it has to go back on the shelves one way or another.

Another is preferred.

I plugged in my ipod and listened to James Herriot. If you haven’t listened to any of his books on tape you are missing a real treat.

And see how much progress I made.

I even managed to straighten up the cabinet that olds the 1/2 yard cuts.

It was nice to see all of my fabric. Some of it has been piled on that shelf for the last two years. Hiding from me.

It is easy to see that my taste in fabric is mainly hand dyed and batik fabric. I used to hand dye yards and yards of beautiful fabric. Right now I have very few of those pieces left. I do have a bunch of hand dyed fabric that I got at a good price from a company that was going out of business. I also have some Ricky Tims HD fabric that I did not purchase at a good price, but I had to have it.

Now I just need to do something with it.

I have this little habit, whenever my life is in chaos, and I have a “to-do” list a mile long, instead of working on my list, I will organize a cupboard or closet.

Somehow by putting one little section of my life in order, I begin to feel calm.

The rest of the world can go crazy, but I can gaze at my minute organized space and feel at peace with the world.

The space in question.

Any fabric that is larger than a half yard belongs in this place. It is an old grocery store counter, and has big cast iron feet, it weighs a ton, and looks almost like a piece of furniture from the front. The paint is peeling and the entire thing could use a good scrubbing. But not today.

I cover it with a quilt and place my large ironing board on top. It makes a great work space.

Take another look.

fabric3.jpg

And even more mess.

fabric4.jpg

Oh my, it is no wonder I can’t find anything in there.

But I saw this blog on organizing and decided to give it a try.

And so I began.

fabric6.jpg

I was all set to start but I didn’t have the right size ruler. Since I live out in the boonies I couldn’t just jump in the car and run to the store, so I made my own with thick cardboard. It wasn’t long enough so I had to tape two sections together and overlap them. I also taped the sides and edges so that it would slide smoothly out of my fabric roll.

I would place the fabric down and start the process of wrapping it around my 6 1/2″ wide cardboard. I thought that I would have to iron some pieces of fabric, but they all smoothed out easily enough.

See how nice that looks.

And look, I’m making some progress.
